I have written elsewhere that it looks doubtful that musicians will be able to make much of a living from their recordings given…
Whatever one may feel on the subject, this is the reality for musicians, and people who mix and produce music you like. Anyone earning a living in music will not argue with this, I feel. But some listeners may, as well as on-demand streaming service employees, board members, investors - now, I bet they aren’t in bands hoping to make some money from music because when they see, no, if they see their Spotify royalties they will not be happy. Truth is, add 15 years from now most music other than ultra ‘pop’ will only exists for a short moment, bands from a lot of genres just will not be able to sustain themselves to continue writing, releasing, and focusing on music.
Ultimately we can’t buy every band we sort of likes music, but we can buy the bands we really likes music. Then they maybe around in 15 years….
PS. If you were wondering, iTunes et al download royalty rate is actually very good. Accountability is really quite fine, and payment timely.
